Hi, I recently installed a modem. when windows boots up it can't find it and asks for the driver for a PCI controller device. I got a cd with the modem and I've tried every driver on it but windows keps telling me that the driver it needs is not there. I'm confused as I've spent hours trying to get the modem installed. Has anybody got any suggestions? Thanks 1. RE: modem not detected lbyard Nov-06-00 04:27 PM In response to message 0
Here are some things to try (one at a time): Go into the CMOS setup and disable the COM ports that you are not using. Delete any MODEMs and COM ports, in Control Panel, System, Device Manager Try the windows CD (win9* directory/folder) for the driver Move the MODEM to another PCI slot. Download the driver from the manufacturer’s web site (see http://duxcw.com/digest/Fromshop/mb/det.htm and http://duxcw.com/links/manufact.htm) Enable OS is PnP aware in the CMOS so IRQ sharing is enabled. Pull all boards except the MODEM and video. What MODEM do you have? Please provide details on the motherboard. Larry

I had this problem with one of my computers a t work, it had a built in modem. After installing windows all i got was a pci device, while trying to install the driver for this, when asked for the location i just pointed to the modem driver location. Turns out that it was my modem after all. and everything worked.
