Defective BIOS chip?

I have a MS 6167 motherboard and a major problem.
The BIOS chip seems to be corrupted. The system was first stating there was a BIOS checksum error. Removing the battery for a short while cleared the settings but did not solve the problem of the "bios checksum error".

Flashing the BIOS did not improve its behaviour: in fact, it made the problem worse. I cannot boot the system anymore. It locks up after saying there is a 750 MHz Athlon processor on board.
The system always worked fine, I never fiddled with the hardware.
Can you please give me some advice on where to get a new BIOS chip?

This is definitely a great advice. I found the website: it appears to be possible to buy a new chip or have my own one reprogrammed at KSI in Germany. It is not even expensive: about $13.
If it works, I'll let you know!
