Upgrading a Duron processor...

Im a little confused as to how i upgrade a processor. is it simly a matter of taking out the old (a 650mhz duron) and putting in the new (1ghz duron)? what do i do with these heatsink things? thanks for your help, and please presume i have little computing knowleddge thanks!

im not really too sure, it was made by a small company so its sort of "pick and mix" the motherboard has 3 slots for pc100 sdram if thats any clue? im using 650 duron at the moment, but if i remember it is compatible with athlon processors too. im sorry but im away from home at the moment so cant check the manual. if its ot an easy thing to do ill consider paying someone to do it, thanks again

First, one should determine if it can be done at all. That is done by checking the specifications for the motherboard. http://duxcw.com/digest/Fromshop/mb/det.htm might be useful in determining the make and model of the motherboard. Once that info is available, a copy of the motherboard manual/specification might be available for download from the manufacturer’s web site.
