Defrag and Scandisk problem

Hi, i'm using windows 98SE and my HardDrive is Samsung 20gig 5400 (I think it is that number)RPM
Now my problem is that I can't scan my disk or defrag cos it says "ScanDisk could not continue because your computer does not have enough available memory."
What microsoft says is "hard disk that is larger than 8 gigabytes (GB) in size and has a cluster size less than 8 kilobytes (KB). " so that's y I get that error message
how do I solve this problem??

"RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, contact the manufacturer of the third-party hard disk tool to inquire about a possible update to the software that resolves this issue."
What did you use to partition and format the disk drive? Larry

I've never partioned my harddrive before cos I like the one drive for simplicity. I've never formatted hard drive myself befoer.
I bought the computer with the hard drive as it is...
Don't know what the dealer did though...

You might be able to use a program like Acronis OS Selector (http://www.acronis.com/en/products/oss50/), PowerQuest’s Partition Magic (http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/) or Paragon’s Hard Disk Manager (http://www.paragon-gmbh.com/n_fm.htm) to resize the clusters. As there is no telling what was originally done to the drive, I would backup all critical data, take the drive down to bare metal, and do a clean install of everything. Or, take the computer back to the person that originally set-it-up and let them fix it. If you use any of the before mentioned products, be sure to back-up everything first. If you need help redoing the drive, please come back. Larry

Partition Magic 7 is a wonderful tool, but if you don't want to partition and you simply want to defrag there are two tools I would recommend, either Executive Software Diskeeper which is what I use but is highly expensive or a very good and less expensive alternative Vopt Millenium at:
