Archos MiniDVD for Toshiba Portege 3410

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Portege 3410 with an Archos MiniDVD. (OS is Win ME, 128 MB RAM, Savage IX 8MB video memory, Intel 82440MX motherboard, PowerDVD MPEG2 decoder SW)
Since I bought the DVD I have tried to get it to work as a DVD player. CDs work just fine, though.
The problem seems to be that I can not turn on DMA for this drive. (The device manager sees the MiniDVD as a CDROM and the check box for turning on DMA does not even exist.)
Is this a question of incompatible hardware or is it a software configuration problem?
Any suggestions are welcome.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply Larry. I am afraid that I have tried the suggestions given at the Archos homepage. Although the correct drivers are installed the DMA is still not available as an option for my DVD/CDROM.
Could new drivers for the USB to PCI universal host controller. (I believe I read somewhere that this might do the trick ...)
I am a complete loss for a solution for how to enable this option for my DVD drive. Maybe Windows XP will be the answer.

Hi again,
No it is not USB drive. It is a CardBus interface. (Sorry for not mentioning this before ...)
I do not know which part it is that controls whether a device can use DMA or not. (Looking at my device manager (computer properties) I can see that my ECP controller and my DMA controller use DMA. Nothing else is listed although my generic IDE disk (my HD that is) has the option DMA enabled.)

640X480, OR TRY USING DEFFERENT DVD SOFTWARE SOME WORK BETTER THAN OTHERS AND SOME NOT AT ALL .IF THIS DOES NOT WORK IT MAY MEAN YOUR VEDIO CARD DOES NOT SUPPORT DVD PLAYERS,TRY USING IVIDIA TNT 2 OR HARD DRIVE DOES NOT SUPPORT UDMA.
