Error Msg: x:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready.

Running Win 98. CD ROM will not read any type of CD. Drive letter appears in Windows Explorer. Device manager shows no conflicts. It really seems the device works just fine, but will not spool up to read a disk. Sound familiar to anyone?

I don't see how you reached the conclusion that the device is working fine when it isn't. Sounds like a loose cable of bad drive to me. I would test the drive and cable on another computer. Larry

I have the same problem with the same error message.have you sorted yours out now cause if you have can you please tell me what you did.

Yes I did click "re-entry" but that reentry diologue box keeps coming back.

Try another CD. Look from pronunced scratches on the CD. Larry

After installing physically another CDrom Drive, I switched on the computer,checked in Device Manager the Cd rom was listed with correct name and model in CDrom line.
When I opened My computer my cdrom was NOt to be found.
I put a CD in the drive and I get a message saying "drive not accessible".
checked all cabling,as it is a Master drive on an IDE channel on its own there not be any problems. But I tried a lot but no joy.
Can some one help me. please.

If the computer were in my shop I would:
1. Substitute a shop CD-ROM to verify that the computer is or is not working OK.
2. If the shop CD-ROM did not work, I would try another cable.
3. If the shop CD-ROM drive and cable work Ok, I would try the CD-ROM drive in question in another computer.

thanks<i have sorted the Prob. now. I had to load ATAPI device driver as I was using a newer CDRom.It reconised the CDRom straight away.And everythings working fine
