CD Burner - To Buy or Wait?

Putting the final touches on my wish list. Never had a CD Burner and don't know what to look for. Thinking about a CDRW and had a Plextor 12/10/32 on my list. Went to their web site and they clearly state that their software is not Windows XP compatible. Then checked on a Lite-On 16/10/40 unit and XP is not listed. How important is this as I plan on a dual boot W98 & WXP set-up (thinking of slowly migrating to XP). Hate to buy a drive that I can't use.
Also can I burn a CD-R disk (el cheapos) with a CDRW burner? I know little of these things but willing to learn.
My main interest in a burner is for drive image back-ups using Norton's Ghost which comes with the Epox 266A board.

In my opinion (and obviously?), very important to be sure the drive and drive software is compatible before the purchase. The last ones I bought did not come with software that was XP compatible. That caused customer problems until the software was updated.

Yes.

If you are backing up just one drive, a second drive would be a lot faster and the media is free. I don’t know how good Ghost will work with CD-RW drives. I’d check on it first. There are backup programs designed for CD-RW drives. Larry
