hard drive on a nec versa 6050mx laptop

hello there i was wondering if you can help me please,i have a nec versa
laptop model 6050mx it is a 150mmx mhz,the problem is that i bought a new 10
gig hard drive made by hitachi model DK23CA-10 and when i install the hard
drive and the computers starts it recognisez the hard drive but that is it
it does not go to a c:prompt it just saids the model of the hard drive and
stays blinking,also on the bios it only saids 8 gig,i already upgrade the
bios to version 055 and i was going around different web sites and i notice
that they sale up to 20 gig hard drives for the same laptop model,can you
please help me.thank you

Older BIOSs wont recognize a drive bigger than 8 gig, and it sounds like the bios doesn't like the hardrive. WHat size was the one that came out?

The CMOS Setup might not be set correctly for the drive or it is limited 8 GByte. I suspect the later. Try setting it to auto-detect the drive, if there is such a setting. Otherwise, the 8 GByte limitation can probably be worked around. See http://duxcw.com/faq/hd/40g.htm. You probably have to fdisk and format the drive. i have set the cmos to auto detec the first time and only reads 8 gig,my hard drive is a hitachi would any of this programs work on it?
