CDROM STOPPED WORKING IN WIN 95, WORKS FROM DOS BOOT UP DISK !! ASUS P5A MOTHERBOARD, AMD 450, DUAL HARD DRIVES, CREATIVE CDROM 48X (SLAVE). DEVICE MANAGER INDICATES CDROM INSTALLED -OK TRIED REMOVING CDROM AND THEN REINSTALLING DRIVERS ETC ETC PROBLEM REMAINS. COULD THE BIOS SETUP AFFECT CDROM OPERATION (ALL HARD DRIVES ETC SET TO AUTO). ANY SUGGESTIONS THANKS 1. RE: CDROM SHOWS AS REMOVABLE DISK DRIVE lbyard May-28-02 08:57 PM In response to message 0
Try setting it as no drive present. Windows should still detect. Try disconnecting the drive, starting Windows and deleting the CD-ROM drive in the Control Panel, System, reconnecting the drive, and starting Windows. Check C:\autoexec.bat with edit from the DOS prompt and be sure the line with mscdex isn't remarked-out with a rem plus a space in front of it. Be sure you don't have multiple CD-ROM drivers loading in C:\config.sys. Larry 2. RE: CDROM SHOWS AS REMOVABLE DISK DRIVE W_Seip May-30-02 05:35 PM In response to message 1
Thanks Larry for the info. I checked the above and reinstalled drivers etc. I now see the the CDROM icon, but when i try to access it, a new message appears, e:\ is not accessible, a device attached to the system is not functioning? I tested the cdrom with win98 etc and the hardware appears fine. When i restart windows in dos mode the cdrom works, but i noticed a old command also shows during this boot up, altough rem'd out in config.sys file, C:\windows\command\ etc. Anywhere else this could be loading from ? 3. ren (rename) config.sys and autoexec.bat to eliminate them as the source. Ren them back. Larry
