I just got a cdrw drive, and I have a dvd drive. The question is that how can I use both drives? I have no more 40-pin cable slot located on the motherboard. 1. RE: How Can I Use Both Drives? lbyard Oct-26-00 02:54 PM In response to message 0
Put it on the same cable as the CD-RW and set one as a master and the other as a slave. You can put two drives on each IDE interface, if the cable has three connectors. Buy a new cable if it doesn't. It is not advisable to put a CD drive on the same cable as a hard disk drive. It can slow-down the hard disk. Be sure you power supply and ventilation can handle the extra load: 250 plus watts and, probably, a chassis fan. Power supplies, cases, and fans have been discussed elsewhere in these forums (search) and at http://duxcw.com/digest/Howto/buildcom/athlon/ath_1.htm. Larry
