Sony Spressa CD-RW 140E - Only works as a cd-rom

I have a CD-RW from Sony and all I can get it to do is work like a standard cd-rom. I bought it from a friend and I am using win 98. Sony states they cannot help me because I did not by it new so all support is null and void.... Can anyone help me. I have several burn software ( Nero, Adaptec, etc) and none of them recognize the drive.. Thanks... Mike

The only drivers I could find still did not install correctly. Yes it works perfect in my friends computer. I re-installed it on his system and it works fine, but if I put it on my system it dissappears...
