Win ME OEM install

I have a K62-350 with windows 98 upgrade installed.. I bought the OEM version of Win ME(Full ver)... I tried installing it over my Win 98 and it gives me a "SU0168" error, saying that I needed the upgrade edition of Win ME...
Now, is there anyway i can get around this?

If it were me, I would back-up everything and/or everything of value on the hard disk (My Documents, Favorites, mail, Cookies, etc.), take the drive down to bare metal with fdisk, install Win 98, restore from backup, and reinstall all applications. I do this on my own machine about every 6-months to get rid of accumulated garbage. Be sure to think this out before attempting it. But if i was you ,i would copy everthing you need to keep then Fdisk the whole drive .then install Winme from dos.don't forget to format c:
As trying to install a new operating sys over another is not good.

I agree as well. It is quite possible to upgrade to WindowsME using OEM disk from Windows98. But it's not technically "LEGAL" to buy an OEM version of WindowsME and install it on a machine that already has an operating system. That is why you keep getting the SUxxxx error.
But if you insist .. you might try looking for the /ntldr trick used to upgrade to Win98se using the OEM disk .. It is reported to still work. But I will have to insist a disclaimer to say .. Dont do it, unless you accept the risk of trashing your current system and having to start over again anyhow.
I understand your desire to upgrade , as I am stuborn myself and have seeked out the exact same upgrade path. Good luck.

rename the win.com file to win.bak in the windows dir & that will then allow ME to upgrade 98 (This works with all full versions of win9x). the only thing to then watch out for is you need to do a custom install of ME & tell it to install in the windows dir not windows.000 as it will try to do by default.
