I am running windows 98 and on start up I am receiving a WINCMP32 illegal operation error message. Details consist of a WINCMP32.exe caused an invalid page fault in module WINCMP32.exe at 0167:004015e7. Once you close the message area the message goes away. The other problem I'm having is windows won't shut down or restart using the shutdown process. I have attempted to install the fix to correct that but it was unsuccessful. Can you give me any advice. Thanks 2. RE: windows 98 won't shut down and giving error on startup lbyard Oct-02-01 04:30 PM In response to message 0
That is probably being caused by the Backdoor.Asylum virus. It may also be causing your other problem. Go to http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.asylum.html for the fix. Go to mskb 202633, How to Troubleshoot Windows 98 Shutdown Problems, at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q202/6/33.ASP? for steps to fix the shutdown problem if something else is causing it.
