Windows XP

I am planning to purchase XP when it comes out and replace Win98 with it on my desktop. However, I already have 9GB of info on the computer. If I uninstall 98 and then install XP, will I still be able to read all of my data through XP? Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Though I prefer a clean install, windows xp recommends doing an upgrade from another OS to XP. doing so would preserve all your data.
