Explorer stopped working after ME upgrade

I recently upgraded a Windows 98 2nd Edition to Windows ME. The machine has AOL and a local ISP loaded on it. Ever since the upgrade Internet Explorer 5.5 has not worked. The machine will connect to the internet but thats it.
Can anyone please help me?
