Computer locks up

Does anyone have a checklist of things to try and in what order to solve a computer freeze?
(Larry, I'm sure you have somthing someplace. Can you point me to it or reproduce it?)
By the way, Larry, you have a list of IRQ assignments in your FAQs. Should I reassign my devices to the IRQs as you've listed? Can I go into Device Manager and just switch them around?

See FAQs, Motherboards. No, one cannot in general just go into the Device Manager a switch around IRQs. You may be able to switch some boards there, but most drivers will not allow it. Try going into the CMOS Setup and enabling OS is PnP aware. That should permit Windows IRQ steering and may solve the problem if it is being caused by an IRQ conflict. If you have a motherboard with the VIA MVP3 chipset, download and install the 4-in-1 drivers, in particular, the IRQ mini-port driver. Larry
