I loaded windows xp the week it came on the market. It's great, but lately I ahve problem after problem. I got high speed cable internet and keep getting disconnected. I'm positive it because of an error in my xp program. Plus I got some kind of virus in the scandisk and I can never clear it up because its always running.SOOOO I want to clear out everything and load xp again from a clean drive. One other thing was that when I originally loaded xp I partitioned my HD into a 2gig/29gig/29gig partition. All I want are 2 drives of equal size. Can anybody get me started? 1. Use fdisk on a Startup floppy (I use a Windows 98 Startup floppy -- http://duxcw.com/digest/Fromshop/software/windows/startup/startup.htm) to remove all of the partitions and reboot to the floppy and... a:\>fdisk c: /mbr That command produces no response and will install a new Master Boot Record on the hard disk. It may or may not get rid of the virus so be sure to check it. Clean install steps for Windows XP Home and OEM are in our Windows FAQs. Much discussion of it is in this forum. Lastly, more advice is at http://duxcw.com/digest/guides/hd/rules.htm. Larry

Hi Larry, Making a start-up disk instructions for Windows 98 works fine; I made one from a computer with Windows 98 OS. How can I make one for a computer with Windows XP Home edition? I tried your instructions on my computer with XP and the EBD.CAB file is quite different than the file for Windows 98. Is it possible to use the start-up disk for Windows 98 to start a computer that has Windows XP as its OS? Thanks, Tony. 3.
