wish to formatt computer running XP

I want to format my hard disk.
I am running windows XP.
I have downloadded the Windows XP startup disk that spans 6 disks.
However I am not able to format disk.
When I type format c: or format nothing happens.
I have two hard disks on the computer and wish to format both.
My drive c is fat32 and drive d is NFAT.
please help.

The best way to do it is too boot to the CDROM and use the partition setup in that and delete the ntfs partitions and then recreate them if you only want to format to reinstall it then continue this way and recreate your partitions to desired size and then install
