I am still having probs downloading the updates from microsofts site..when i have had my pc scanned it comes up with 0 %.

I have tried all the following methods but no luck so far.

Method One :

Add the following to your " C:\Windows\System32\drivers\et
c\hosts" file:

207.46.106.80 www.download.windowsupdate.com

Method Two:

Delete all my Temporary Internet Files.

Any other suggestions. Please kindly advise.

Two or Three days ago after I did a clean install of Windows XP Pro.(With the legal copy not the pirated copy). After reboot my PC the 1st time, I click on the Windows Update. I am still having probs downloading the updates from microsofts site..when i have had my pc scanned it comes up with 0 %.

If you were using a bootleg copy, there may still be something left on the hard disk from it... I would remove all partitions and fdisk with the /mbr flag to install a new Master Boot Record. You may have to write zeros to the drive. There was a recent post on a utility to do that. It was called wipeout.exe. I can't find teh site with the download or the post. Could someone please post the link to the download? This time I'll put it in the FAQs.

1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. Choose the Medium setting.
An Internet Explorer Favorites link to Windows Update may not function properly. For best results, access Windows Update by using the link in your Start menu (click Start and then click Windows Update), or type windowsupdate.microsoft.com in your Internet Explorer address bar."
