Change Monitor question

Hi All Guys,
OS Windows ME
My 17" monitor went crashed, waiting for repair. I have to dig out an obsolete 14" monitor for temporary replacement. However when I start the PC I could not read the screen,a white shaking screen, after loading finished. How can I change monitor config.
To start Safe Mode or something else ?

Safe Mode is the way I do it. That uses a generic VGA driver. Then right click anywhere on the Desktop, Properties, Settings, Advanced, Adapter, and install the Microsoft VGA adapter so it will use that when you restart to the Normal Windows mode. Larry
