Just after my computer dials into my ISP, at about the time that ID & password are verified, it shuts down completely and restarts. It doesn’t do it every time and I can’t see any pattern. I am running Windows 98 on an AMD 550. I have upgraded to IE 5.5 but it was doing it when I was running IE5. Is anybody else having this problem or any suggestions?
Thanks

A computer that reboots itself almost always has a hardware problem. Which AMD 550? What is the make and model of your motherboard? Does it shutdown like that when you do anything else? Larry

Larry: In answer to your questions. 1. The CPU is an AMD K6 II 550. 2. Motherboard is an Asus P5A with audio built in. 3. It has not happened at any other time - that doesn't mean it won't.
Any further advise is welcome. furner

See if it does it with the CPU clock multiplier set to 5X. Check for IRQ conflicts with the MODEM in the Control Panel, System. Delete and reinstall the dial-up adapter. Larry
