I would like to run Fax/Telephony program on this machine: ECS K7S5A MB, Athlon XP1700+, W98SE, SoundBlaster compatible sound (on board). I currently have an Agere Systems PCI soft modem (I do not know the manufacturer of the modem) that will not apparently support speakerphone applications. I would like to upgrade to a modem that will support the functions of send/receive faxes, telephone answer machine, and speakerphone. Is it required to install a controller based modem in lieu of the soft modem? If so, are there any recommendations? Thankyou for any help in advance.

No. I would use a "regular" PCI MODEM with the features you desire. Larry
