Malfunctioning Shortcuts

Help! My shortcuts aren't functioning. Ok, here's what I did, I went to file types in folder options and created a new file name extension called LNK, which is the extension for shortcuts, and when I deleted it, my shortcuts went wild! They all turned into the same icon and when I double click on them, they don't work and open the open with... command. Also, in the name, it shows the extension .lnk. Can you tell me how to fix that?

“If you use File Manager to create an association for .lnk (shortcut) files, the shortcuts will no longer function correctly. You cannot then use File Manager to re-associate the .lnk extension with shortcut functionality, nor can you restore the shortcut functionality on the File Types tab.”
As if you didn't know that now...
