DirextX 3D accleration not available

My new game cannot find 3D graphics support from my graphics card. I have Visiontek Xtasy Nvidia Geforce2 MX400 chipset with 64M of ram. I have had 3d support in the pastand games were working. The option to enable it in DirectX diagnostic tool is grayed out. I downloaded new drivers and installed them and this did not help. Visiontek says to reformat my hard drive - which I do not want to do. How can I get 3d support enabled again?

I would try reinstalling DX 8.1 and see if that helps.
