DISK
last updated: 08/02/03
MANUAL
METHOD. This is an adaptation of the old-fashioned way. Do
it once and put a copy on a file server for shop use.
Put
a blank floppy in drive A: and make a bootable floppy.
Start -> Programs - > Windows Explorer - > right
click drive A: -> Select Format -> Click Quick (erase) -> check
Copy System Files - . click Start
Go
to c:\windows\command\ebd and double click the EBD.CAB.
Hold
the Ctrl key and click the following files (or any you want) to select them:
ATTRIB.EXE
EDIT.COM
EXT.EXE
FORMAT.COM
MSCDEX.EXE
SCANDISK.EXE
SYS.COM
Right
click any one of them while all of them are highlighted and extract to A:
when prompted.
Likewise,
select the following files (or whatever files you want) from C:\windows\command\ebd
and copy them to A:
AUTOEXEC.BAT
CONFIG.SYS
DRVSPACE.BIN
EXTRACT.EXE
FDISK.EXE
HIMEM.SYS
Optionally,
go to C:\windows\command and copy the following files (anything else you
want and will fit on the floppy) to A:
XCOPY.EXE
XCOPY32.EXE
XCOPY.MOD
Edit
the config.sys file so it looks like this:
[menu]
menuitem=CD, Start computer with CD-ROM support.
menuitem=NOCD, Start computer without CD-ROM support.
[CD]
device=himem.sys /testmem:off
[NOCD]
device=himem.sys /testmem:off
[COMMON]
files=20
buffers=20
dos=high,umb
stacks=9,256
lastdrive=z
Edit
the Autoexec.bat file so it looks like this:
path=a:\;c:\windows;c:\windows\command
LH a:\MSCDEX.EXE /D:mscd001
Now, that wasn't too hard, was it?
