Red Hat Linux Clean Install -
The Whole Enchilada
This is my detailed(!) step-by-step, clean install and testing of Red Linux
7.3, including telnet, wu-FTP, Samba, Apache, a virtual web server, Perl, PHP,
MySQL, and the lines from the various configuration and test files.
Red Hat Linux 7.3 Install Log 9/12/02
Downloaded first three Red Hat (RH) CD Image ISO files from http://www.linuxiso.org/
and burned CD’s.
Started with a clean 6.4 GByte hard disk. No partitions.
Went into the motherboard set-up and changed the boot sequence to boot to the
CD-ROM drive.
Booted
Pressed Enter to choose first item in the first menu: Install or Upgrade in
the Graphical Mode.
Welcome Screen – Next
Language Selection – English (default) - Next
Keyboard Configuration – changed to Generic 104-key PC; left default of U.S.
English - dead keys Enabled (default) – Next
Mouse Configuration – changed to Generic 2 Button Mouse (PS/2) and unchecked
Emulate 3 Buttons – Next
Install Options – Custom, not an Upgrade – Next
Choosing Your Partitioning Strategy – Manually partition with Disk Druid –

Highlighted Free under /dev/hda - has 6150 MBytes of Free space
Clicked the New button
Mount Point = /
File System Type = ext3 (default)
Allowable drives = default - just the one in the computer
Size MB = 5631 (6150 - 512 for swap)
Fixed size

Left 518 Free Space (close enough; should be 2 x memory; has 256 MBytes of
memory)
Highlighted it
Clicked the New button
Mount Point = blank
File System Type = swap
Allowable drives = default - just the one in the computer
Size MB = 1 (left at default)
Fill to maximum allowable size selected
Rest (default) unchecked

Allocated 518 to swap and there is no more Free space

Use Grub as the boot loader
Install Boot Loader record on /dev/hda1 Master Boot REcord (MBR)
