Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer
Last updated: 6/16/00
Microsoft has a tool to check your computer hardware and
software to see if there will be problems running Windows 2000. Called
the Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer, it will run on Windows 95, 98, and NT
machines. The analyzer compares your hardware and applications against
a list of known problems (they call them issues; I call them what they are). This
is the same sort of thing that is run during the Win 2K Setup. I ran
it on my computer and it found all sorts of things wrong and did not find
what I knew would not run under Win 2K: my DOS-based accounting software. The
accounting package is on my file server and the analyzer doesn't check network
drives. When running the program, plan to take a lunch break. On
my computer it took a long time to run and it appeared to stall soon after
starting, but it didn't. Just wait for it....
Well, I'm not going to install Win 2K. If you will
look at the list, below, you'll see why.
