Win 98 SE/Me ICS Configuration
for PPPOE DSL
Last Updated: 7/4/01
Q. How does one configure Windows
98 Second Edition (Win SE)/Millennium Edition (Win Me) Internet Connection
Sharing (ICS) to share a DSL connection that uses PPP Over Ethernet (PPPOE)?
A. If
ICS is already installed, it has probably chosen the Network Adapter that
connects to the DSL MODEM as the shared connection… Uninstall ICS as
follows: Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove
Programs, Windows Setup Tab, highlight Communications, Details,
uncheck Internet Connection Sharing, OK, and restart Windows
when prompted. Repeat the preceding steps and check the Internet
Connection Sharing checkbox to run the ICS Wizard to reinstall ICS. Choose
the Dial-up adapter as the adapter to connect to the Internet, the shared
adapter. Fire-up the Internet Explorer, click Tools in the main
menu, Options, Connections, Always dial my default connection,
In the Dialup (and Virtual Private Network—Me) Settings, be sure the correct
connection to your ISP is set as the default. Configuration of other
browsers should be somewhat similar. |
