Replaced Motherboard and No Mouse
Last updated: 1/28/2001
Q. I replaced my Baby AT motherboard and now the
mouse and printer don't work. And suggestions?
A. Not all serial cable/bracket assemblies
work with all motherboards. That is, if you use the cables that should have
come with the motherboards you bought instead of the ones you had installed
in your computer from a previous motherboard, COM1: may start communicating
with the mouse, etc. As I recall, PCChips motherboards are fussy about them—owing,
I’m sure, to their superior design. Printer cables have this problem more
often than serial ports.
