ESS 1688 soundcards may not work properly with the EP-MVP series of motherboard. REcently, I thought mine did. Fine and dandy, then suddenly my ports disappeared. And my floppy drive.
The store I bought it at replaced the mothrboard, but it happened again last night. I tracked the problem to my ESS soundcard - so if you have a problem with your motherboard suddenly not seeing a mouse, or a modem, or a printer, or a floppy, or, as in my case All of the above, try removing your soundcard.. Annoying, but it's better than nothing.
