I hope you partitioned that hard disk so C: does not take all of it. It will take a very long time to defrag C: if you haven't. I would suggest a 4 GB C: drive for that size hard disk. If you did partition it than the hard disk is using D:. If I had the computer I would check the IDE cable to see if it is plugged-in correctly, double-check the CD-ROM jumper, replac the cable, replace the CD-ROM, download updated CD-ROM drivers, etc. Win will handle some IDE devices with a SCSI to IDE driver.
