I'll see if I can be of any help here as I have a lan sharing a cable modem. I put two network cards in the fastest machine one which goes to my other computer via a cross cable this "intranet" side of iteach have their own internal ip's The second card then is connected to and has the ip address of the cable modem. I then run winroute (www.winroute.com) on the machine with two cards whch takes the internal ip's and converts them to the cable ip on all outgoing comunications and the otherway round on incoming.

Hope that wan't too confusing and was of some help. I'm sure larry wile give a better explanation
