Brenda, I don't have a 5200c here to play with, but I can tell you that HP scanners can be difficult to install. See my shop articles on the 4100c (http://duxcw.com/digest/Fromshop/scanners/scanjet4100c/4100ctip.htm) and 5P (http://duxcw.com/digest/Fromshop/scanners/scanjet5p/instpre6704.htm) as examples and for some tips which may apply to the 5200C. One basic thing is that the scanner must be disconnected for the PC, the software is then installed, the computer is restarted and turned off before the reboot, the scanner it reattached, the scanner is turned-on, and then the computer is turned on. Your scanner may be broken... Does it work when attached to the printer port? Other than that I would suggest calling HP's tech support. The HP techs I have talked to over the years usually knew their stuff. Yes, a few times a year I have to call tech support outfits also--a lsat resort. Larry
