Got connection but says Media Disconnected !!!
«

This is wierd
My internet connection is a wireless connection throught a wireless Netgear Router. I lost connection as a result of doing some changes on the router. When I got re-connected I found out that from the windows promp when I type IPCONFIG to see the connection, I saw the correct IP address, but it says Media Disconnected. To make sure about the connection I even logged into my MSN messenger but it is still saying Media Disconnected !!!
Any idea what is going on please ? !!!
Thank you

You may want to check your NIC to make sure its functioning properly. Or try unpluggind everything and starting over.

Opening a DOS window and typing...
ping 127.0.0.1
Would be a first check in testing the TCP/IP stack and network adapter.

I could ping 172.0.0.1 successfully and It is still the same. I have got internet connection and both of my computers which are getting the wireless connection still the same, when I check for the IP address by typing IPCONFIG and press enter, the result is " Media Disconnected ", but it also shows the correct IP address, Subnet mask and Default gateway. I still feel there must be some thing wrong, because they drop the connection quite alot and I still have not been able to find out what the problem could be.
Thank you

What changes did you make to the router? Does the problem go away if you reset the router to defaults?

The changes I made on the router was only changing the channel from 11 to 6 and change the wireless connection password on the router. I wanted to upgrate the router but the version router has got is the latest, therefore; I did not do it.
After I did those little changes on the router my computers were still dropping the connection every 10-15 minuts, then I did a system restoration on both of my machine and since then, I have not lost connection but the media is still shown disconnected !
Thank you

Disable your wired connection.

Oh Great Larry, It worked !
I disabled it and the message ''Media Disconnected'' did not show this time.
Thank you very much Larry. Can I ask you to explain what was that happening and why ?
Thank you very much

Explanation: nothing was connected to the wired connection and Windows was reporting the error detected in it's status. Did it also fix your frequent disconnect problem?
