I just installed win xp sp 2 on my computer I can run programs fine. but when I go to my computer or any windows operation such as search or control panel or run I get a debugger error, a dr. watson 32. exe error message. is this a virus or is there any way of shuting down this debugger. what is dr. watson 32? if I hacve to reload winxp i will not be able to save anything because I can not get to my docs file or download file. any help would be appreciated. did not have this problem before installing sp2.

What exactly is the error?

Dr. Watson: Start, Help and Support, enter Dr. Watson, see Using Dr. Watson towards the bottom of the search results.

Larry here is the error  event type:BEX  p1:drwtn32.exe  p2:5.1.2600.0  p3:3b7d84a2  p4dbghelp.dll  p5:5.1.2600.2180  p6:4110969a  p7:0001295d  p8:c0000409  p9:00000000

c:docume~1\stumar~1\locals~1\temp\werbc06.dir00\drwtsn32.exe.mdmp

i don't have a clue what it means but someone at microsoft probably does. and no I did not know about adware. Can I reload sp2 on top of itself? I know I can not reload xp home on top of itself and keep all my data.

Just found this one: You receive a "Data Execution Prevention" error message in Windows XP Service Pack 2.  Looks like it will work around the problem until it can be fixed by the software vendor with the SP2 problem.  You might want to check this list: Some programs seem to stop working after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Larry, the vendor in this case is microsoft itself. so until they fix sp2, I just put my disk in and loaded repair and have been taken back to sp1, now everything is working again. but I hope MS fixes those bugs in sp2.

I finally fixed the problem by inserting the xp cd and let go to install. it will recognize that xp is on your system and will ask if you want new install or fix old install choose fix it  it will install over itself. keeping intact all your other data but taking it back before sp2 was installed then due as Larry said run adaware and virus scan then redownload sp2 and reinstall. that seems to have solved my orginal problem. I now have a new problem which I am going to post on a new thread.
