Dux Computer Forum Rules
Last updated: May 3, 2006
Please include sufficient information to aide those trying to help you...
Don't forget to tell us what operating system you are using and what updates have been installed; e.g., Windows XP Home Edition SP2.
- Please include a description of any computer hardware that may be involved.
- If the problem involves a network/the Internet, please describe the network/the Internet connection with as much detail as you can.
- When an error message is involved, please include the entire error message.
- Manufacturer model numbers a very useful in solving problems.
Many members put hardware and operating system info in their signature in their forum profile so they don't have to repeat it in future posts.
Please capitalize and punctuate sentences. Chat room abbreviations are not welcome as they are difficult to read. All caps customarily means a person is shouting.
Please do not send technical problems directly to the Administrator (Larry) by instant message or e-mail. He does not have all the answers, is not here 24/7, and others will not benefit from the answers. Please post technical questions in the forums. Also, forum posts directed to the attention of a specific forum member may not be answered by other members, and may not be answered at all.
Please use meaningful subject lines. Help!!! is not usually a meaningful subject. Good subject lines help when searching the forums.
Do not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any law.
Do not use any profanity or "bad language" no matter how mild in these forums. We are very strict about this policy. Please do not even hint at anything profane or use ****, etc. to indicate a profane word that is apparent in context. Our advertisers don't like it and they pay the bills.
Do not post anything in these forums that indicates anything illegal whatsoever or attempt to seek solutions to problems involving pirated software, etc.
Please try to keep politics, religion, and other unrelated and controversial subjects to yourself. There other forums on the Internet for these kinds of discussions. These forums are primarily technical in nature.
Do not post any copyrighted material in these forums, including images unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent in writing from the owner of the copyrighted material. Use links or your own words. Quotes are not to exceed 10% of a copyrighted page. A copyright notice does not have to be included on a web page for it to be copyrighted (http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html).
Please do not post the same problem more than once or in more than one forum. Do not "bump" posts.
Please try to post topics in the appropriate forum, but don't waste a lot of time on the decision as to which one it should be in.
Posts in these forums are restricted to the English language. The main reason for this requirement is that we do not have sufficient time to moderate the forums if other languages are used. English is not the native language to many visitors, but they are still welcome here and those of who are fluent in English are asked to be understanding and polite to those who are not.
Although occasional humor adds spice to these forums and is usually enjoyed, please try to avoid frivolous and non-constructive posts. If we see too many of them, especially from the same person, we will delete them.
Although, good natured humor is welcomed, please consider the feelings of other readers, especially new ones, who may take a joke or "cut" wrong and be offended.
Unpaid advertising is not permitted in these forums. Please do not try to use these forums to advertise web sites or products of any kind.
If you make a post in these forums asking for help, please feel obligated to return and thank the people who tried to help you and letting us all know how the problem was fixed. If you do not intend to return, please do not waste our valuable time.
We thank you for your corporation. Enjoy! Larry
