Please Help, IPX Gaming
Josiah Jul-19-01 06:33 PM
I have a peer to peer between two win98 boxes with a crossover cable. I have tc/ip, ipx/spx(default settings)and netbios support for ipx
installed. Each box can see the other and share
files ok.
The problem I have is I cannot get any Lan/ipx
games to connect, Unreal Tournament, Land warrior
ect. They just time out and do not find the box
acting as the server.
Does anyone have any tips, ideas? I have been pulling hair for days! Thanks for any input, it is greatly appreciated!

If you have anything Novell installed besides IPX/SPX, remove it. The client for Microsoft Networks should be installed. Do you have firewalls installed? Larry

Thanks Larry, I appreciate your help.

I have no firewall, but the ipx protocal I installed is microsoft no novell. No novell soft installed. I tried setting the frame type to ethernet 802.3 and the addresses to 10 on each machine and still no luck. Is there and app that will let me test the connection of each protocal? Anything else I might try?

That's the right protocol. From our last newsletter:

"Qcheck (http://www.netiq.com/qcheck/Default.asp) is a supper pinger, throughput analyzer, and tracer for the TCP, UDP, SPX, and IPX protocols. The easy-to-use interface looks somewhat like a simplified, handheld multimeter. Itís free if you are willing to fill-out a short questionnaire."

To all gamers out there... How about picking-up on this thread and helping with this problem? Larry

After reinstalling all protocols and more hair
pulling all protocols seems to be talking now!
Maybe a corrupt file? Thanks for the help Larry!

Yes, sometimes the only thing that will work is to uninstall and reinstall all networking stuff. Ask Gates why! Oh, I know his answer: buy Win 2000 or XP. Larry
