Internet Explorer Problems
ad_pellaeon Oct-21-01 08:55 PM
I recently set up a home network between two computers using Windows ME and a router to share internet connections. I have the network up and running fine, and one computer can access the internet through Internet Explorer fine. However, when I attempt to access any web page on the second computer, it brings up a screen saying 'Internet Explorer could not open the Search Page.' I cannot access any web pages because of this. I am using TCP/IP, automatically assigned IP addresses, and Client for Microsoft Networks. Any idea on how to get IE to work? Thanks in advance.

Try Start, Run, enter winipcfg, select the network adapter, and release and renew the IP address from the router. You should see it change. Be sure the IE, tools, Internet Options are the same on both computers. Larry

I have already tried that. I am not sure that it is the network, because I can browse other computers through the one with problems, however I cannot view anything on the web. In IE it says 'The search page cannot be found,' and in NN (Netscape) it says that the socket connection was broken. Help? Please?

If the proxy box is not checked in IE, tools, Internet Options, connections, LAN Settings and you can ping, but you cannot browse http:// I know this sounds odd with a cable connection, but try uninstalling and reinstalling your dial-up connection. That may fix a Winsock problem. Try the rest of the steps at http://duxcw.com/faq/network/winsock.htm. I have seen this sort of problem two or three times. Larry
